Mysterious Skin (2004) – Gregg Araki

Mysterious Skin (2004) has got to be one of my favourite movies of all times. Gregg Araki is an amazing visual director, and while this is a shift from his earlier cult status B-grade work (The Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy), his use of colours and cinematography remains brilliant and his written screenplay is an excellent adaptation from Scott Heim’s original 1996 novel. A controversial filmdetailing the lives of two young boys sexually abused by their baseball coach, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance in here is second to none. The unhealthy crush has carried on ever since…

Here’s a good visual recap of the film I found on youtube. Song is ‘Jackie Collins Existential Question Time’ by Manic Preachers. (joe.) I don’t care if you’re bi, I’d take you any day.
